🌟 Welcome to Year 4 with Mr Lyons and Mandy! 🌟

Hello everyone and a big Year 4 welcome from Mr Lyons and Mandy!

We’re so excited to be your guides on this year’s learning adventure. Expect plenty of laughter, curiosity and creativity!

Year 4 is all about growing in confidence, stretching our imaginations, and discovering just how much fun learning can be. We’ll work hard, celebrate often and make every day count.

Curriculum Overview

English

🍂 Our Autumn Adventures! This term, we’ll be diving headfirst into three brilliant books:

  • Varjak Paw by S.F Said - an adventure coming of age story about a cat who goes on a journey to learning an ancient martial art - the Way

  • Wombat Goes Walkabout by Jackie French – a heartwarming Australian tale about friendship and courage

    • Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl – a golden ticket to imagination, creativity and chocolatey fun!

🌸 From the Spring term we will be expanding into historical fiction and a variety of other books including:

  • Escape From Pompeii by Christina Balit - a book based in the Roman era about the eruption of Mount Versuvius

Through these stories, we’ll explore fictional and non-fiction writing, playing with a range of text types. We’ll also be polishing our handwriting and building beautiful sentence coordination to help everyone become fluent, confident writers.

Support for Parents/Carers

Your support makes a huge difference! Here’s how you can help at home:

Reading 📚

Aim for 20 minutes of daily reading and jot down what’s been read in your child’s Reading Record. Little and often really adds up!

Times Tables Practice ✖️

To prepare for the Multiplication Tables Check, we ask for five minutes a day of practice

Homework is given out on a Thursday and expected back on the following Tuesday. 10 spellings are given out each week that follow specific spelling patterns and regularly include words from the Y3 / Y4 national spelling list. These are a variety of words that children in lower key stage two are expected to know before moving onto Year 5.

Learning Resources
